FA Age Appropriate Coaching Introductory Module

Course Description
This six hour course is aimed at Level 1 coaches and qualified teachers who wish to further their knowledge and confidence in coaching 5-11 year old children. It will include practical sessions as well as theory and group discussions.

The course looks to build on the candidate’s knowledge and acts as a stepping stone to the FA Youth Award Module 1 “Developing the Environment” and the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Football.

Course Aims & Objectives
To provide learners who have an ongoing involvement in coaching young football players with an opportunity to improve their knowledge and confidence in coaching children in the 5-11 year age group.

The Introductory Module offers an opportunity for football coaches to be supported in developing their knowledge of how to operate as a football coach within the expectations of the game, their club, the players involved and others affected by the coaching process.

Course Content

Theory
The course will introduce some key aspects in the following:
• Managing Difference in your coaching sessions
• The STEP principle
• An introduction to Learning Preferences
• The Coaching Environment
• Fundamental Movements (ABC's)
• Session Planning & Management

Practical
Practical elements of the course will provide an introduction to:
• Fundamental Movements
• Application of the STEP principle

Practical Involvement
Candidates will be encouraged to participate practically to maximise their opportunities for learning (however inability to participate will not prevent successful completion of the award).

Course Pre-requisites
Candidates must be at least 16 years of age
