The Birmingham Communities League is an 11-a-side Football league that is in large made up of new and emerging communities.
Some of the teams have affiliated to leagues in the previous few years but have not been in a position to sustain an 11-a-side club due to various reasons so with the support of the Birmingham County FA we are seeking to work with the twelve teams in the league to create an infrastructure and a development plan to take the club forward and continue to grow in a mainstream league.
The league is designed to be as accessible and as cheap as possible it was an initial £60 to enter and then it is a further £12.50 per game to cover the cost of the referee’s.
The way the league will work is one game per month with the twelve teams being spilt into two divisions and playing over two Saturdays at Perry Hall Park in Perry Barr. The top two teams in each division will then play in a semi final with the two winners going on to contest the final with all money raised from gate receipts being spilt between the twelve teams.
To get the league up and running BCFA staff Matt Price, Mohammed Juned and Jasbir Batt contacted various community groups and teams that had been previously affiliated to a leagues and discussed the concept and the possible benefits available to them.
There was a clear need for this league as the response to the league has justified, many new and emerging communities across the country find it difficult to establish themselves within sport and require additional support so the Birmingham Communities League offers the opportunity to engage with the various communities across the region and for them to play 11-a-side football and create something their community can buy into.
BCFA Get into Football Officer Matt Price said “ So far the league has been a great success, the 11-a-side game in this country is decreasing year on year for numerous reasons so the emphasise behind the league is about reducing the obstacles that effect teams competing in 11-a-side football. This league will act as a stepping stone for the clubs to put themselves in a position where they could compete in a weekly league at some point in the future. It will also allow the BCFA to work closely with the twelve clubs to ensure they don’t become another statistic this time next year!”
The twelve teams competing are as follows:
- Nigeria FC
- Ghanaian All Stars FC
- Daban FC

- Saltley Stallions FC
- Moseley Diamonds FC
- Ethio FC
