The FA recognises the value of volunteers and aims to acknowledge and reward their contribution, as well as offering ongoing support.
Volunteers are the backbone of grassroots football. Without the time, dedication and commitment from the estimated 400,000 volunteers in England, the 37,000 clubs would simply not exist.
The FA recognises the value of volunteers and aims to recognise and reward their contribution, as well as offering ongoing support.
Volunteers are people who willingly give their time and effort without financial reward. There should be no barriers to being involved and some roles can be undertaken without even leaving the house.
In the UK there are 22 million adults who give up time to volunteer each year, of which over one quarter are involved in sport. There are many benefits to getting involved in football as a volunteer. These include:
• learning new skills
• helping others and giving something back into sport
• becoming part of a team and meeting new people
• to do something different to the day job
• to build self-confidence.
Most volunteers already have a link with the club, be it a parent, grandparent, friend, former player or sponsor. Through committing time and effort to running the club, volunteers will play a major role in giving players the opportunity to enjoy football each week – and should feel rightly proud of the contribution they make.

Volunteer Centres
Volunteering England has a network of Volunteer Centres that spans the country.
Volunteer Centres are local organisations that provide support and expertise within the local community, to potential volunteers, existing volunteers and organisations that involve volunteers.
Individuals can access volunteer opportunities and organisations such as clubs and leagues can access advice, help and support to retain and recruit volunteers.
Birmingham County FA are actively working with Volunteer centres across the region to encourage more clubs, leagues and organisations to access the support and advice they can offer.
Volunteer Centres will advertise any volunteer opportunity your organisation needs filling on www.doit.org and support you through the whole recruitment process free of charge.
If you require any further information on volunteering please contact Claire Mulvenna on Claire.mulvenna@birminghamfa.com or on 0121 357 4278.
