The heroes of grassroots football were thanked by Birmingham County FA on Monday night at the Association’s annual Awards Ceremony.

A host of awards were presented to clubs, schools, referees and individuals from The Black Country, Birmingham and Greater Warwickshire, including Football Workforce, Fair Play and Charter Standard County winners.

This year’s event was hosted by BBC WM’s Jenny Wilkes at the Great Barr Hotel and attended by representatives from The Football Association, alongside volunteers from around the region.

Presentations were made to the top Charter Standard Schools within the BCFA. George Salter High (West Bromwich), Myton School (Warwick) and Kenilworth School also beating stiff competition from 4 other County FA’s to take the Regional Award in their categories.

On top of this success, Myton School has achieved an amazing double, taking the national Charter Standard Secondary Development School Award for the second year running.

Richard Seedhouse from Coventry-based Coundon Court FC also scooped the Regional Charter Standard Administrator Award to go alongside his County Award in the same category.

The FA is working with County FAs to highlight the role of Groundsmen and women who work hard in all weathers to look after our football pitches. Calvin Green was presented with the FA/BCFA Groundsman of the Year Award for Step 7 Clubs and below, recognising his efforts in maintaining the grounds at Cadbury Athletic’s ground.

“It would be wonderful if we could thank everyone who contributes time and effort to the grassroots game,” said County Secretary, Dave Shelton.

“Each winner who received an award last night is representative of many hundreds of people throughout our region.

"Many congratulations to those who were highlighted as award winners, and a huge thank you to everyone who plays their part.”
