Samba Saturday Kick Off

08:27 GMT, Friday, 27 June 08. Events

Greets Green saw a new style of football coaching ‘Samba Saturdays’ launched recently, at George Salter Collegiate Academy

23 youngsters registered for the soccer coaching sessions delivered by the UEFA HatTrick Project, which forms part of West Bromwich Albion Community Programme.

The sessions are based on close ball control, 1 v 1 dribbling techniques, Tricks and Flicks activities, accurate passing technical practises, and culminate in game related activities such as Futsal, Joga Bonita and Samba 2’s.

Both Joga Bonita and Samba 2’s are ways of expressing creative skills and close touches, and develop the players use of space and timing of skills in a tight area.

Participants pay £1 and play from 11:00- 12:00 at the collegiate academy, Davey Road, West Bromwich. There is no need to register before the event, and parents can simply leave their Children with the WBA coaches and pick them up at the end. All coaches are fully CRB checked, and have FA qualifications and Futsal qualification. The environment is friendly and is a fantastic chance for children to meet new friends from the local area.

Several more players turned up the following week, and every 10 weeks these players are invited to a Joga Bonita tournament, same venue, times etc, where they put their new skills to the test in a competitive setting, playing for medals and prizes.
