The Festival Sunday League team successfully appealed against a decision at Birmingham County FA earlier this week.
The fee for an appeal is £33, which is reimbursed to clubs when the outcome goes in their favour.
Travellers’ Secretary, Paul Williams was delighted with the outcome at Tuesday’s hearing, but rather than return money to the club asked Birmingham County FA to make a donation to the Royal British Legion’s annual appeal instead:
“The fact that we went through the appeal last night was to if you like ‘clear our name’ and the cost doesn’t really come into it.”
BCFA Discipline Manager, Mike Fellows was happy to comply with the Northfield-based club’s request:
“Amateur football clubs have to work hard to raise funds for their own day to day operations but this goes to show how much people within the game care about the wider community.
“We’ve put a cheque in the post to the Poppy Appeal today – credit to Paul and his Travellers side for what is a really kind gesture.”
As custodians of Remembrance, The Royal British Legion through the Poppy Appeal, provide ways for commemorating those who are no longer with us.
The Royal British Legion is the UK’s leading charity providing financial, social and emotional support to millions who have served or are currently serving in the Armed Forces, and their dependants.
