Tesco Girls Football Week Kicks Off!

10:13 AM, Tuesday, 23 June 09. Events

The BCFA kicked off Tesco Girl’s Football Week with a 5-a-side tournament at George Salter Collegiate Academy.

Eight Secondary Schools from the Sandwell area were invited to compete for the tournament trophy. Both Pool A and Pool B showed promising talent in the group matches, but Manor Foundation, Wodensborough, RSA Academy and Sandwell Academy were victorious in going through to the semi-finals. It was RSA Academy and Manor Foundation who fired their way into the final, with RSA Academy showcasing their footballing skills to win the trophy.

The event was sponsored by Tipton Town Girls FC and was aimed at recruiting more girls into the club. Tipton Town FC secretary Angela Boden said “it’s great to see so many girls playing football and we’ve had a lot of interest from the girls about joining our club”.

“We’ve had a fantastic turnout today and the quality of football has been impressive. We hope that today’s event will encourage girl’s playing for their schools to look for exit routes into locals clubs like Tipton.” Football Development Officer Shelley Gudgeon.

Many Thanks to George Salter Collegiate Academy for their support in the event.
