The FA Charter Standard assesses the ability of leagues to provide a high quality, safe and enjoyable football experience against a standard set of criteria. The League has to satisfy standards of procedure and adherence to policy as well as implementing best practice in relation to running the game.
The league was formed in 1971, one of the founder members was John Bryan who became at that time Vice Chairman and later was Chairman of the league until his unfortunate death eight years ago in his early fifties.
The league membership are delighted they have attained F.A. Charter Standard Status, League management said “this has been achieved by hard work and dedication of a number of people over the last three seasons, the league secretary, Derrick May, has worked extremely hard in making this happen along with the support of the Birmingham County F.A. Football Development Officer Rachael Blunt and Jackie James the league minutes co-ordinator have, in the league management view, been successful due to the full support of the member clubs who have attained F.A. Charter Standard for Clubs, we recognise this was achieved due to the Birmingham County FA Development Officer assigned to our league and with her delivering a successful package to our member clubs to also attain their F.A. status awards.
The league currently has 390 from ages of under 8’s who play on Saturdays under 9’s-10’s-11’s-12-13’s-14’s15’s-16-youth. The development of players is the main purpose of the competition and we hope that having the F.A. Charter Standard for the league we shall have the opportunity to develop the league with new initiatives for the membership”.
The John Bryan Coventry Minor league has also demonstrated its commitment to continuous improvement by submitting a three year development plan that will ensure that the League provides the best possible service to member clubs and the game in general.
Heidi Lockyer, BCFA Senior Development Officer, added.
“Coventry Minor League has worked so hard, not only this year in attaining FA Charter Standard League status, but over the last few years raising standards across all clubs, working with them offering support and guidance. Credit has to go to the league for working so hard and to the partnership formed with Rachael Blunt, the Development Officer from the County FA, together they have overcome hurdles and together reached their target.”
