TWO BIRMINGHAM COUNTY FA MATCH OFFICIALS RECEIVE FA COMMUNITY SHIELD APPOINTMENT

The Football Association Has Appointed The Match Officials For The 2019 FA Community Shield.

Sian Massey-Ellis and Stuart Attwell have been appointed to this year’s FA Community Shield Final, supported by McDonald’s, at Wembley Stadium.

Martin Atkinson will take charge of the match between Emirates FA Cup winners Manchester City and Liverpool, who take part due to their second place finish behind champions City in last season’s Premier League.

Atkinson will be joined by assistant referees Sian Massey-Ellis [Birmingham FA] and Dan Cook for this contest, whilst Stuart Attwell [Birmingham FA] will be the fourth official.

The appointment of Sian Massey-Ellis means she will become the first female match official to officiate in the Shield.

When reflecting on this appointment, Referees’ Committee chairman David Elleray said: “Sian is the most successful female official in The FA’s history and the Referees’ Committee felt it was fitting that her achievements and undoubted abilities are recognised by this historic appointment.”

Birmingham County Football Association would like to congratulate Sian and Stuart for this prestigious appointment, whilst wishing them and the team of match officials the best of luck for this contest.

The FA Community Shield will take place on Sunday 4th August.
