Football For The Goals

Birmingham County FA's sustainability programme Save Today, Play Tomorrow has been accepted as members of the United Nations initiative

Save Today, Play Tomorrow, from Birmingham County FA is pleased to announce that it has been accepted as members of #FootballFortheGoals

#FootballFortheGoals is a United Nations initiative, launched on 6 July 2022, that provides a platform for the global football community to engage with and advocate for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is an opportunity to build on football’s powerful and influential reach and to work together to become agents of change by aligning messaging, strategies and operations with the aspirations of the SDGs.

Members of #FootballFortheGoals commit to the following principles across their business practices and in their advocacy with stakeholders, as well as media and commercial partners and sponsors:
1. Sustainability policies and practices
2. Implementing and advocating for the SDGs
3. A human rights-based approach, including in addressing issues of discrimination and avoiding discriminatory practices
4. Equality and equity, including gender
5. Climate action

Football for the Goals, which is led by the UN Department of Global Communications, will tap into the power of football to raise the profile of the SDGs and will drive behavioural change and sustainable practices in the football industry.

In recognition of Goal 5, gender equality, Football for the Goals was launched on the opening day of the UEFA Women's EURO 2022 with a conversation featuring UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed and UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin, moderated by Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications, Melissa Fleming. Having recently unveiled its own sustainability strategy "Strength through Unity", focusing on human rights and the environment, UEFA joins the initiative as its inaugural member.
