Planet Mark Certification

We’ve achieved the Planet Mark Year 2022 Business Certification

To coincide with #GreenFootballWeekend, Birmingham County FA are proud to share we are Planet Mark Business Certified for 2022, and the wonderful news that we have reduced our organisational total carbon footprint by 30% in the last 12 months, down from 81 tonnes to 56.8 tonnes of co2e.

We have also seen a significant reduction in our total carbon per employee, down by 38.8 % from the previous year.

By measuring and reducing our carbon footprint with Planet Mark, we are directly and measurably contributing to 7 of The UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, these are a collection of interrelated goals set by the United Nations. They cover a broad range of social and economic development issues, including poverty, hunger, health, education, climate change, gender, equality, water, sanitation, and energy.

For BCFA, the 7 SDG’s our certified reporting aligns us to for the 2022 reporting year are outlined in the image below:

Additionally, through Planet Mark, BCFA have protected an area of endangered rainforest thanks to Cool Earth; a charity working alongside rainforest communities to halt deforestation. Our pledge through Cool Earth goes directly towards supporting the Asháninka community in Central Peru. Our commitment to Planet Mark also helps the Eden Project here in the UK– an educational charity building connections with each other and the living world, exploring how we can work together towards a better future.

BCFA have ambitious plans to continue reducing their carbon emissions having recently installed a rooftop PV solar array, they aim to power up to 70% of their operations through renewable energy, with the shortfall coming via the recently launched BCFA Green Energy Tariff, soon their HQ will be powered 100% by renewable energy.

We want to continue to have a positive impact through our business and hope that we can empower our wider club community to take positive climate action. We hope that you will join us in this movement for change.

All our member clubs can & will contribute to our ambitious aims to create a low carbon greener game and will continue to play an important role in our long-term sustainability commitment.

We encourage you to get in touch if you have any questions or suggestions you’d like to share with us, or to join us on this exciting journey of sustainability. Together, we are a collective force for good.
