MATCH PREVIEW: SATURDAY MINOR CUP
The County Cup Finals season continues at the home of Birmingham County Football Association, the Excellence Arena on Saturday 14 May. Coventry Copsewood U16 take on Stratford Town Youth U16 for victory in the Saturday Minor Cup, with kick off set for 11am. The competition only began recently in the 2017/18 season and with the COVID pandemic, this means the 2022 final is only the third time the trophy has been up for grabs.
Looking at their routes to the final, albeit very short with just three rounds, Coventry Copsewood U16 received an away win walkover in the first round with Stratford Town Youth U16 granted a bye here too. In the quarter finals, both teams had straight forward games with Stratford smashing 4 past Nuneaton Borough U16 with no return, whilst Copsewood edged past Leek Wootton U16 with a 2-0 victory. Things got slightly difficult in the semi-final for both as Copsewood booked their place in the final with a 2-1 win against AFC Wulfrunians U16, and Stratford being involved in an eight-goal thriller which ended 4-4 to take the game to penalties, before they were eventually victorious winning 8-7 in the shootout.
Neither of the teams involved in the 2022 edition of this competition have reached this stage before, so spectators will be hoping for an action packed 90 minutes to see which team picks up the Saturday Minor Cup for the first time in their history.
