PREVIEW: SUNDAY YOUTH CHALLENGE CUP FINAL

Beacon Colts Minor U18 Take On Lyndon Colts U18 At Walter Goodman Stadium.

Walter Goodman Stadium plays host to this weekend’s County Cup Final on Sunday 5 May, as Beacon Colts Minor U18 face Lyndon Colts U18 in the Sunday Youth Challenge Cup Final (11.00AM Kick-Off).

With both teams scoring 12 goals between them in the Semi-Finals, this match promises to be an enthralling encounter in a competition that is known for high-scoring matches.

Beacon Colts received a bye in Round One, before breezing past Hundred Acre Boys courtesy of a 4-0 victory. A close encounter followed against Coventry United, however Chris Sinclair’s side edged out their opponents by three goals to two. A comfortable win against AFC Wulfrunians followed, where they scored six goals and kept a clean sheet, however their nerves were tested in the following two rounds to book their place in the Final with both matches going to penalties. After a 1-1 draw with Sutton Coldfield Town, Beacon Colts were 4-2 victors from the spot to secure a tie in the last four of the competition. An emphatic 5-5 draw followed in the Semi-Final against last year’s winners, Thimblemill United, where they eventually won 8-7 on penalties.

Lyndon Colts did not have to endure a shootout to book their place in the Final, yet they experienced some emphatic and convincing performances along the way. Two four goal victories booked their place in Round Three, where they were drawn against Perrywoods United Youth Sunday. This match finished 6-3, which was followed by a comfortable 2-0 win against Higham Sunday in Round Four. The Quarter-Final was much closer, as Lyndon Colts snuck past Winshill U18 by three goals to two. The Semi-Final was far from close, as Paul Jenner’s side knocked Winshill U17s out after a 7-1 scoreline to book their place in the 2019 Final.
