In the latter stages of the first half, Sphinx took the lead for the first time in the game. Archie Ascroft drove in a corner onto the head of Captain Rose. The central defender towered over his marker to head beyond Buchanan.

The away side added their fourth shortly after half time. Billy rose highest following a corner and headed back across the keeper for his first of the match.

Sphinx made their lead a comfortable one five minutes later. Billy spotted Buchanan off his line and looped the ball into the back of the net despite the efforts of the Solihull defence.

In the closing stages of the game, Richard Nurrish’s side pulled a goal back. O’Connor made a superb save to deny Nurrish, but Angoy was quick to react to the rebound and head in.

Solihull then grabbed another goal to close the gap to one goal. Nurrish met a corner and planted a clean header beyond O’Connor.
