PREVIEW: Sunday Amateur Cup

Beacon Cat & Fiddle and Down Syndrome Awareness come together in the 2022 Sunday Amateur Cup Final

An exciting finals season for Birmingham County Football Association kicks off on Sunday 10 April as Beacon Cat & Fiddle take on Down Syndrome Awareness for the Sunday Amateur Cup.

The final, to be played at the home of the Birmingham County FA, the BCFA Excellence Arena, gets underway at 11.00am. Both sides are aiming to lift the Cup for the first time in their respective histories, with neither side reaching the final before.

An astonishing 59 goals have been scored between the two sides on their routes to the final, so the tie promises to be an extremely exciting affair. Both teams’ run to the Final provides reason for supporters to be optimistic ahead of the clash, with the finalists stringing together particularly eye-catching runs in the competition.

Beacon Cat & Fiddle got their campaign underway with an emphatic 8-0 victory against AFC Wolverhampton Olympic, following that up in the second round by plundering 6 goals past Elite FBC. Into the third round they went, and once there, they swept aside Swan Dive 5-1, before notching a 7-0 success against Dog & Partridge to find themselves in the semi-final. Here, they had their toughest test yet as they just edged past Monks Bridge United 1-0 to book their place in the final, where they take on Down Syndrome Awareness (DSA).

DSA meanwhile have been in similarly irresistible free-scoring form. They kicked off with a stunning 10-0 win over AFC Oakham before notching a 2-0 victory against Romulus FC Sunday. In the third round, they conceded their first goal of the Cup campaign but still secured a 3-1 win over Langley Town to see them through to the quarter final where they put 15 past Tettenhall Athletic. In the semi-final, they edged past Halfway winning 2-0 to book their place in the final, hoping to overcome Beacon Cat & Fiddle.

Spectators at the BCFA Excellence Arena will hope that neither side have lost their appetite for goals when it really matters.
