PREVIEW: GIRLS COUNTY CUP

Warwick Juniors Girls take on Wordsley Panthers in the 2022 Girls County Cup Final

The Birmingham County Football Association finals season continues on Saturday 23 April as Warwick Juniors Girls and Wordsley Panthers clash for glory in the Girls County Cup.

It’s the second final to be played at the home of the Birmingham County FA, the BCFA Excellence Area, and kick off is at 11.00am. Wordsley Panthers are looking for first time victory in this competition having never reached the final before, with Warwick Juniors Girls looking to collect the silverware with their new name. The latter have appeared twice in this competition’s final before as Warwick Juniors Angels and were victorious in 2013.

Both sides have produced eye-catching runs so far in the competition with 22 goals scored and just 6 conceded between the two, setting up what could be a very exciting final.

Warwick Juniors Girls saw themselves straight through to the second round after receiving a bye in the first, where they put 6 past Knowle Girls Raptors to put themselves in the quarter final draw. Here is where they met Boldmere Falcons and dispatched them comfortably with a 4-0 victory. In the semi-final was where they had their toughest test, as they edged past PS Olympic after successfully winning a penalty shoot out following a 1-1 draw to set up their tie with Wordsley Panthers in the final.

Meanwhile, Wordsley Panthers started their campaign with a tough test against the current holders Coventry City Girls where they snook past winning 3-2, before easing Kingshurst Pavilions Girls aside with another 3 goals scored. In the quarter-final, they travelled away to Redditch United where they notched a 4-1 success, before having to work hard in the semi-final against AFC Wulfrunians, but successfully edged past them with a 1-0 win. They will be hopeful for their strong run to continue in the final and pick up the silverware for the first time.
