PREVIEW: SATURDAY AMATEUR CUP

Halesowen Town U21 take on Silhill U21 in the 2022 Saturday Amateur Cup Final

The Birmingham County Football Association finals season continues at the BCFA Excellence Arena on Saturday 7 May as Halesowen Town U21 and Silhill U21 come together in the Saturday Amateur Cup Final.

Kicking off at 2pm, this game sees the County FA into a busy period with seven finals in nine days. Silhill have appeared three times in this final before with consecutive appearances in 2008, 2009 and 2010, winning twice and picking up runners up medals once. Halesowen Town have never appeared in this final so will be pushing for a successful first time out.

On their route to the final, Halesowen Town U21 received a bye in the first round so began the competition in early November against Doe Bank Rangers where they notched a 3-1 success to meet Wake Green Amateur in the third round who they eased past with a 9-1 victory. In the quarter final was when things got tough for Halesowen Town U21 as they faced Leamington U23, but they managed to edge past them with a 2-1 win and set up a tie with Folly Lane in the semi-final. They secured their place in the final with a 1-0 victory meaning they have only conceded three times on their way to Ray Hall Lane.

Meanwhile, Silhill U21 also received a bye in the first round which meant they met St Andrews Netherton Boing in the second round in November who they beat 2-0. In the third round, they put 5 past Nuneaton Borough U21 with 1 in return to see them through to the quarter finals. They faced Sutton Coldfield Town U21 and brushed them aside with a 3-0 victory to book their place in the semi-final where they came up against Kingshurst Pavilions. This game was their toughest test, and it went all the way to penalties (4-2) to decide the outcome after the full-time whistle blew at 1-1.

The final is set up to be an exciting encounter between the two teams and spectators will be hoping for a strongly contested game with end-to-end action.
