MATCH PREVIEW: VETERANS CUP
The penultimate County Cup Final fixture takes place on Sunday 22 May as Coundon Court Old Boys take on West Brom Spinney in the Veterans Cup, with kick off set for 11am. Since the competitions first season in 1996/97, neither of these teams have featured in the final fixture so both clubs will be looking to write their name in history for the first time.
Starting back in October, Coundon Court Old Boys began their impressive run to the final with a 5-1 victory over Brantley Veterans before receiving a home win walkover in the second round to see them through to the quarter final quite comfortably. Here, they met Polesworth Miners Veterans and eased past them scoring 7 without return to book their place in the semi-final against the competitions major threat, Monica Star Veterans. However, they managed to brush them aside as they ended up on the right side of a six-goal thriller winning 4-2 and securing their appearance in the final.
For West Brom Spinney, it started with an enthralling 16-0 victory against Handsworth Town Veterans before they were taken to penalties in the second round against Sutton Rangers Veterans as the full-time result finished 3-3. They managed to win the shootout 5-4 to set up a tie against Bromsgrove Sporting Veterans where they edged past them 2-1 to book their place in the semi-final. Scoring 24 goals along the way, West Brom Spinney secured their finalist status as they beat Hednesford Town Veterans 3-1.
With what is an expected large turnout, the two teams will be eager to put on a competitive display of football and get their name etched on the trophy to take back to their respective clubs.
