The Birmingham County Football Association finals seasons comes to a close on Sunday 29 May when Chelmsley Colts U17 take on Wednesfield Hammers U18 at the BCFA Excellence Arena for the Sunday Youth Cup, with kick off set for 11am.
Neither team have featured in this competition’s final before, since its inaugural season in 1993/94, meaning they will both be looking to write history for their clubs.
The first round for both of these clubs saw them involved in goal-fest ties as Chelmsley were on the right side of a 4-2 victory over Glades U17 and Wednesfield put 6 past Black Country Phoenix U18 who scored 3 in return. Chelmsley then passed through the second round with a 2-0 win over Shirley Town Juniors U17 as Wednesfield continued their free scoring run against Perrywoods United Youth U18 winning 7-4. In the third round, there was only 5 goals scored between the two teams as Chelmsley ran out 4-1 winners over Coventry United Juniors U17/U18 and Wednesfield edged past Stretton Eagles Junior U18 with a 1-0 win. The latter stages of the competition once again saw high scoring matches as Wednesfield scored 5 with 1 in return against Wordsley Wasps U17 North, meanwhile Chelmsley put 4 past Rugby Borough U18 with no return. The semi-finals were a similar story as Chelmsley swept Khalsa Juniors U17 aside beating them 5-2 after extra time, whilst Wednesfield recorded a 3-1 victory against Redditch United U18 as both teams booked their respective places in this weekend’s final.
With both teams capable of scoring goals, the spectators will be hoping for a good spectacle on show as they will want to see the confident performances that have found both teams in this position.
