Courses and CPD
As well as the formal qualifications that can be undertaken for various roles, including coaching and welfare officer, The FA also offer a number of additional courses and CPD training.
There is a requirement for specified club committee officers to complete the free online ‘Safeguarding for Committee Members’ course.
While mandatory for specified officers, the course is open to anyone within a role on your committee. To further raise awareness of safeguarding, potential situations and how to deal with them, there is also a free online ‘Safeguarding For All’ course for parents, volunteers and anyone else involved in the game.
Welfare Officers must also undertake regular FA-approved safeguarding training. With the club committee’s support, Welfare Officers ensure the appropriate checks and training are completed for anyone at the club working with children and young people under the age of 18.
Current Courses for Welfare Officers:
Safeguarding Children Workshop – providing club representatives, coaches, referees and volunteers with an awareness of best practise in safeguarding children in football. This course is currently not available due to COVID-19 – further details of this course being available either back to face-face or virtually should be available in 2021.
Safeguarding Children Recertification – anyone who needs to renew (3 years or longer) their Safeguarding Children Workshop certificate can undertake this free course online. To access the course click HERE
Welfare Officer Workshop – this course has previous been run as a face-face workshop, however due to COVID-19, there is now a virtual workshop being offered through The FA. Due to the limited spaces currently available, please contact the Safeguarding Team for more details.
Current Courses for Welfare Officers and Committee Members (mandatory for certain roles):
Safeguarding for Committee Members – created to support committee members to identify an individual and collective responsibility for safeguarding. There are certain roles within a club and league committee where this course is mandatory, to complete click HERE
Useful Courses for Other Volunteers and Parents:
Playmaker Course – this course is open to anyone involved in football aged 14 and older. No previous football experience or qualifications are required. For more information and to register for the course click HERE
Safeguarding For All – a new Safeguarding course from The FA aimed as an introduction to safeguarding, giving basic overviews of how to safeguard, looking specifically at best practise, poor practise and abuse. To complete this course click HERE
