PREVIEW: MIDWEEK FLOODLIT CHALLENGE CUP FINAL

Atherstone Town And Tividale FC Clash In The 2019 Midweek Floodlit Challenge Cup Final.

The Birmingham County Football Association Finals season continues on Tuesday 23 April as Atherstone Town and Tividale go head-to-head for the Midweek Floodlit Challenge Cup.

The Final will be played at the home of Sutton Coldfield Town Football Club, the Central Ground, with kick-off scheduled for 7.45pm.

Supporters of Atherstone Town will be confident of making history heading into the match. Having lifted the Midweek Floodlit Challenge Cup last season against Racing Club Warwick, they now have the chance to retain the title; something no club has achieved since the competition began during the 2002/03 season.

Their Final pedigree will also give them reason to be optimistic, having tasted glory in 2006. Meanwhile, Tividale will hope to write some new records of their own. The club has never reached the Midweek Floodlit Challenge Cup Final and now have the opportunity to round off the campaign with silverware.

The Dale have entertained on the way to their first-ever Final. After receiving a bye through to the Second Round, they required the odd goal in a five goal thriller to book their place in the Quarter-Finals as they defeated Coton Green Saturday 3-2 away from home. They strolled their way through to the last four with a comprehensive 5-1 thumping against Paget Rangers 2011 before edging past Chelmsley Town 1-0 to book their place in the Final.

Elsewhere, reigning champions Atherstone have been irrepressible once again. They got their campaign off to the perfect start with a slim 1-0 win against Black Country Rangers Saturday before hitting Smethwick Rangers for five on home soil. They secured their ticket to the Final with a 2-0 win against Dudley Sports, meaning they have yet to concede a single goal in the competition – an aspect they will hope to continue as they pursue their second consecutive Midweek Floodlit Challenge Cup.
