PREVIEW: GIRLS COUNTY CUP FINAL

Birmingham County FA’s County Cup Final Season Continues, As Coventry City Take On Stourbridge In The Girls’ County Cup Final.

Walter Goodman Stadium, the home of Birmingham County FA, plays host to its third County Cup final of the season on Saturday 27 April, as Coventry City Girls Under-16s take on Stourbridge Girls’ Under-16s in the Girls’ COUNTY Cup final (11.00am kick-off).

Whilst both teams have featured in the Girls’ County Cup Final in years gone by, Saturday’s Final will be the first time that the teams have faced each other in the competition’s showpiece – and the first time in three years that either side has made it to the Final.

Both teams entered the competition at the Quarter-Finals stage, with Coventry City Girls handed an away walkover in their tie against Outwood Swans. Stourbridge, on the other hand, emphatically defeated Leamington Lions Girls 7-1 to progress to the Final four.

The Sky Blues of Coventry City, who lifted the Girls’ County Cup in 2009/10, faced Sporting Solihull in the Semi-Finals, with a 2-1 victory sealing a place in Saturday’s Final, whilst Stourbridge’s tie with Sutton Coldfield Town was an even tighter affair. With the score level at 1-1, the Semi-Final went to penalties, with Stourbridge emerging 4-2 victors from the spot.

The narrow nature of both team’s victories in the Semi-Finals suggests that spectators will be in for an exciting competition in the Girls’ County Cup Final, which was lifted by Solihull Moors Youth & Junior Girls last season.
