Laws of The Game

The International Football Association Board (IFAB) has published changes to the laws of the game for the 2016/17 season. The biggest change in decades.

All referees are expected to learn and understand the new rules as they come into effect as of Wednesday 1st June 2016 for the forthcoming season.

There are over 90 amendments to the Laws of the Game and whilst some of them are simply a change in the wording, there are over 20 that will have a huge effect.

One of the more notable changes is an alteration to Law 12, the denial of a goal scoring opportunity (DOGSO) in the penalty area. If the referee deems the foul to have been accidental or a genuine attempt to play the ball, the player is cautioned, where they were previously sent off.
